NAR defines placemaking as ‘a way to make your community a better place to live by transforming  unused sites and “eyesores” into welcoming destinations accessible to everyone in a community’.

On Saturday, October 19th and Sunday, October 20th,  OKCMAR will be part of a great partnership with the Oklahoma City Capitol Hill community. We will be working together to create pop up shops at the intersection of SW 25th and Harvey during the Open Streets in Capitol Hill event on Sunday, October 20th.

For the first time in three years, OKCMAR has had the opportunity to receive a NAR Placemaking grant to partner with one of our communities. As part of the grant, we need to show REALTOR® involvement.

OKCMAR Government Affairs Director Gary Jones explained, “While most individuals are not familiar with the term placemaking, it is becoming a major part of community planning, design and management of public spaces. OKCMAR has become part of the effort by joining NAR in the support and advocacy of placemaking strategies in our local communities.”

There will be several opportunities for volunteers leading up to and on the day of the event. Please take a moment to see if there is a day and time that allows you to give a couple of hours to help with this community project.
